A Word from Fraser
In the last week you would have received your voting forms for those people who have put their names forward to stand for our first elected Board of Trustees at RHS. I want to thank those of you who have put your names forward and those who have made nominations. I encourage everyone to have your say on who will make up the 5 parent elected roles on our Board of Trustees. Our BOT play a crucial role in steering our school towards our collective vision so having your say in who does this on your behalf is critical.
I want to also take this opportunity to publicly thank and acknowledge the amazing contribution of the Establishment Board of Trustees. Megan Campbell, Cheryl Christini, Patricia Radich, Ken Williamson, Wiremu Puke, Simon Graafhuis and Paulette Bell have given many, many hours of their time selflessly to ensure RHS is a school for our local community that we can all be proud of. It has been my pleasure to work closely with this group of people who have approached this challenging and all encompassing task with the the utmost integrity, grit and dedication. I know they will all continue to have an interest in our school as it continues to develop and grow and no doubt I will at some stage look to them for some wisdom too on occasion.
On behalf of the whole school community, thanks again to you all.
Over the last 2 years of set-up as a Board of Trustees we have been careful to manage the setup grants allocated to us to ensure we can offer the best facilities and learning programmes possible. This work is of course ongoing but I wanted to inform everyone of some of the projects we are now working towards completing.
We are in the early stages of design and pricing work to build a playground/challenge course somewhere on the school grounds as well as covering the courts at the senior high end of the school with artificial turf. Our intention is to get both of these projects completed in the next 3-4 months. We have also prepared the ground area for our cricket nets and this project will hopefully be finished before the start of the cricket season next term.
Over the first six months of the year modules in both the senior and junior highs involved the students in designing pump and bike tracks. When the team at Schick Civil Construction got wind of this they came to us and have offered to make this a reality for us at no cost. This is an amazing offer from a company who has a strong community interest.
Once the weather clears up a bit work on the track will continue on the western boundary of the school (at the end of Bourn Brook Avenue).
In terms of developments outside of the school you will be interested to know that the development across the road from school is a large retirement village being carried out by Somerset. This is important for the school as part of this project will be the design and build of the through road which will see Kimbrae Drive link up with the Borman Road extension just north of Hector Drive by early next year.
Hamilton City Council is moving ahead with plans for the green space across the road also. This will involve multiple sports and leisure facilities that will create a new sports park for our area, probably catering for football and cricket (this is still in the consultation phase). It goes without saying that having facilities such as this across the road will be a huge asset to the school. The ongoing developments in and around our school are really exciting for us all. Over the next few months I hope you enjoy seeing them be completed.
