KORERO FROM MIRANDA
Kia ora Rototuna e te Whānau,
Last week was a significant, historic time for people in the Waikato as well as across Aotearoa. The loss of Kiingi Tuheitia was a reminder that we are all part of the vision for a united Aotearoa. He was a leader who unified people and reminded us that good leadership is finding a path through rising tension to the common purpose that’s underneath it all. He encouraged us to continue to look after each other, and that when we face adversity we face this together. In essence, unity-kotahitanga-working together as one, is the driving force behind positive change. Times of kotahitanga in our history are marked by calls to action that have made positive changes like the kōhanga reo movement that preserved and revitalised Te Reo Māori. Next week we celebrate Te Wiki o te Reo Māori, a time for all New Zealanders to show their support to preserve this beautiful language as we move into the future. Our cultural councils, both international, Māori and Pasifika have organised different activities and events that we can all enjoy and participate in over the next few weeks.
